Since its creation in 2015, the Golden Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition is providing a venue for emerging illustrators to showcase their talent. It aims to build bridges between them and children's publishers, both domestically and globally. In so doing it is giving fresh life to China's children's book industry.
The 2019 competition was launched smoothly on 1 April with the opening of the artwork submission period. With today’s jury announcement, we are completing the picture of what the new Golden Pinwheel edition will look like, taking our excitement to a new level like weather temperatures in these early summer days.
The judges are five acclaimed illustration specialists from China and abroad. In a first step starting mid-July, the judges will work online from their respective countries to establish a shortlist of 50 illustrators to be released on 12 September. On 14 November, all the jury members will meet in Shanghai for a last round of deliberation as to determine the winners of the different Golden Pinwheel awards. All five judges will be attending the Golden Pinwheel award-giving ceremony and take part in CCBF programme of events on 15-17 November.
