Sahar Tarhandeh was born in Tehran in 1977. She graduated in 2000 from Azad University of Tehran with a B.A. in Visual Communication & Graphic Design. By becoming a member of Children’s Book Council (Iran’s national section of IBBY) in 1997, she had her first contacts with children’s literature and has been working and researching in this field until now. She started her career as graphic designer and research assistant at “Picture in Children’s Books” in the Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature in Iran. Then she moved to the UK and lived there until 2007, working as an Art & Crafts tutor for the Durham County Council Education Department and Family Learning programmes. In 2007 she graduated from the University of Sunderland with a M.A in Design: Multimedia and Graphics. She has written and translated several reviews and articles in important scholarly journals, both national and international, mostly on children’s literature, illustrationand graphic design. She frequently participates in conferences and workshops. She served as juror for the Hans Christian Andersen Awards in 2012 and 2014 and has an extensive teaching experience Currently she is director of Tuti Books.
Tuti Books, is a new division dedicated to books for children and young adults within Fatemi Publishing, a leading educational publisher with over 35 years of activity in Iran. We are committed to publishing high quality, didactic fiction and non-fiction books for children of all age groups. Our priority is to publish picture books reflecting our culture and literary traditions; also ones that reflect contemporary world literature as well as themes that can create a common understanding among the children of the world.
