Abstract:
Granny Mei, who lived in a nursing home, became friends with a six-year-old boy named Xia Mo. Every night, Granny Mei would tell Xia Mo a story when he called in. Until one day, Granny Mei found a letter from her father written 60 years ago, telling her that he was stranded in a small moonlit town. That night, Granny Mei had a last phone call with Xia Mo, and the next day, she set out on a trip to find her father...
Jury statement:
“A Non-existent Village is a fairy tale with a prevailing modern sense, an unusual plot, and extraordinary imagination. The author puts Granny Mei and a six-year-old little boy at the two ends of a telephone line and plunges them both into heart-to-heart conversations. (…) The oriental images and the warmth and love permeating the story make the work an exceptionally beautiful and heart-touching one”.
