Mónica Bergna

MónicaBergna has been working in publishing for more than 25 years both in México and Venezuela.  In 2018 she founded Alboroto, her own publishing house, based in Mexico City. Although her publishing house’s main focus is to create books for the Mexican and Latin-American market, Mónica also believes in the importance of constantly updating and incorporating new features: for this reason she is highly interested in buying and selling rights and in understanding the foreign book markets. Moreover, she has a special interest in developing books with illustrations in high relief varnish and text in Braille for blind or partially sighted people and aims to explore the possibilities offered by new technologies as well as the different companies in this sector.  For Mónica, taking part in CCBF Fellowship and book fair is a great opportunity to meet a whole array of illustrators, authors, publishers and printers; to establish new collaborations and have a deep dive into the Chinese book market, where Alboroto has just sold the rights of two titles.

Alboroto Ediciones is a Mexican publishing house. It was founded in 2018 as a collective project with the idea of involving the authors as nuclear part of the team. Alboroto’s books aim to provoke readers and stimulate reactions. The topics they tackle are varied but mainly focus on social issues such as inclusion and disability, among many others. All theAlboroto’s books are illustrated: they encompass literary and visual experiences which are, according to the publishing’s house founder MónicaBergna, two fundamental aspects of the act of reading.
