Andre Letria

André Letria is an illustrator and a publisher. He founded Pato Lógico in 2010 after more than 20 years working as a freelance illustrator. He also dabbled with animation and theatre set design. André received several awards, including a mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Awards, the Portuguese National Illustration Award and several Awards of Excellence attributed by the Communication Arts Illustration Annual and the Society for News Design (USA).

As an illustrator, he participated in several exhibitions such as the Biennial of Bratislava, the Bologna Illustrators Exhibition, the Sarmede Festival of Children's Book illustration, and Ilustrarte in Portugal.

André served as jury for several international competitions, including the first two editions of the Bologna Digital Award, Ilustrarte and the AOI World Illustration Awards. At Pato Lógico André loves publishing his own books and those of whom he admires.

Pato Lógico is a Portuguese independent publishing house created as a means to do books with freedom—freedom of thought, freedom of choice, freedom to take chances. Pato Lógico publishes defiant books for curious readers of all ages. Their books stimulate critical thinking and promote reflexion about the human being and the world that surrounds him.

Pato Lógico is also an educational project. Using books as a starting point, Pato Lógico offers workshops, author’s sessions and touring exhibitions for schools, libraries or other improvised venues. This way they promote art and culture in general, and fight exclusion by working closely with educators. This educational service also helps Pato Lógico’s editorial activity. Through their authors’ events, workshops and exhibitions they connect directly with readers without depending exclusively on the booksellers’ circuit.

Some of Pato Lógico’s most successful books are Se eu fosse um livro (If I Were a Book)—which was translated in 14 languages—, Mar (Sea), which was distinguished with a non-fiction mention in the Bologna Ragazzi Awards and translated in seven languages, and Barriga da Baleia (The Belly of the Whale), translated in five languages.
